Abstract
This book provides a reconstruction of a Passion Narrative claimed to be
the ultimate source of the four Gospels. On the basis of this narrative,
Theobald reconstructs the history of Jesus’ last days in the light of their
historical context. The author concludes that the Jewish people did not have
a role in Jesus’ trial. Also, he interprets the account of the empty tomb as
unhistorical because it is based on a literal interpretation of Hosea 6:2. He
closes with a proposal for a theology of Jesus’ suffering for today, which
corrects the anti-Judaism of Christian tradition.
